لَيْسَ مِنَّا (he is not one of/from us) or لَيْس مِنّي(he is not of/from me) is one of the rhetorical appeals that the Prophet (SAW) implemented in order to illustrate the abominable nature of certain acts and to alert people to the dangers of such acts.
Description
Islam has only prohibited things that are directly harmful or eventually harmful to mankind. Prohibitive injunctions were relayed to mankind either through the Qur’an or the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW). These prohibitive injunctions were conveyed using different strategic stylistic devices and linguistic choices, including the use of prohibitive and negatory devices (“Don’t” and “No”), the use of words that indicate tahreem (prohibition), assigning a penalty to a prohibited act, and assigning a kaffaarah (expiation) to a prohibited act, among other deterrents.
